Password Resets

Changing or Resetting your Password

To change your password for OIT Services or the Campus Information System (CIS), you need to log into the CIS and choose the "Change My Password" option in the My Employee Profile box or the My Student Profile box on the page. Password synchronization between the University Network ID system and the Campus Information System (CIS) began on March 25, 2003. If you changed your CIS password after this service began, you should use the same password to log into the uNID Account Tools.

If you have forgotten your password, you need to contact one of the following to reset your password:

  • the Campus Help Desk at 581-4000 option 1
  • the Marriott Library Help Desk in the Multimedia Center (in person with ID)
  • the Registrar's office at 581-8969

They will reset your password to a default, after which you need to change it (as described above) within 24 hours.  If you don't change it within that time frame, you'll have to reset it again.

    OR

You can reset your password yourself at anytime by going to the Campus Information System login page and clicking on the "Forgot Your Password?" link.

It takes 5 minutes or less for your new password to propagate through the uNID system, at which time you can authenticate with your uNID and new password to the service you wish to use.

Password Guidelines

New password rules require that passwords must be at least 8 characters in length, and cannot match any of your previous 6 passwords. To create a very secure password, include at least one number, one capital letter, and one special character (%, @, $, *) . A good way to create a password is to think of a sentence that will be easy for YOU to remember. For example, "I spent 2 weeks at Laguna Beach." Using the first letters of this sentence, I can create a password that looks like this: Is2w@LB. This password contains the suggested number, capital letter, and special character and is easy to remember.

The password should not contain or resemble:

  • A date
  • A license plate number or a combination of characters resembling a plate number
  • A function key
  • Repeating patterns: ababab, 12344321
  • Reversed patterns: abccba, 987654
  • A sequence from the keyboard: asdfasdfasdf, zxcvzxcv)
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Names or a combination of characters that looks like a name.
