Network Operations was advised to research the need and present a propoal. A study of Appletalk, including presentations at Mac-Managers and individual discussions with Departmental managers, led to the conclusion that Appletalk is not needed across the core. Proposal: Since the consensus is there is no need for AppleTalk to traverse the CBN, we propose removing it from the links between the distribution and core routers at the end of February. Any LAN manager that needs it routed on the local node can do so using RTMP. We have identified these people and plan to work with them accordingly. Removing AppleTalk from the links between distribution and core devices gives us the opportunity to remove AppleTalk routing in EIGRP and migrate to the newest code to support newer features such as multicast in IPv6.
