ITAC Meeting February 16, 2006 Dumke Conference Room, EBC 2:00 pm Agenda: 1. Proposal to Enable IPv6 Enable IPv6 across the campus network core/distribution layers. Router interfaces to local networks will be enabled to pass IPv6 traffic at the request of Departmental IT administrators. Router access control security will be applied to all interfaces, including the University's interface to UEN, by duplicating existing IPv4 firewall and ACL implementations. IPv6 address space will be allocated in a route summarized fashion across distribution nodes, one half of the University's IPv6 space will be held for future use. This proposal does not address application support for IPv6. DNS, Network Time, Firewall, Flow tools, and other applications will be prioritized and enabled at the recommendation of ITAC. Campus DNS policy will be the same as for IPv4; current DNS tools do not support IPv6 so all requests for naming must be made to ipalloc@lists.utah.edu (for AAAA forwarding entries only). See handout for complete Proposal. 2. Status of Campus fiber infrastructure The majority of campus has available fiber, tube and conduit in the ground. Problem spots, current projects and removal of multi mode fiber will be discussed. See handout for details. 3. Updates: a. Auto-shun b. UMail c. Optical Networking
