It’s Time to Update Your Qwest Dex White Pages Listings!

Please submit your additions, corrections or deletions for the Qwest Dex 2009-2010 Salt Lake City White Pages.  The deadline is April 30, 2009. Delivery will be in the fall of 2009. The University of Utah listings begin on page 216 in the business section of the 2008-2009 White Pages.

The listings under the University of Utah heading are paid for by Office of Information Technology (OIT). In light of budget cuts, we will be cutting back considerably to one listing per department.  The listings under the University Health Care heading on page 215, and other listings your department may have in the White Pages business section will be billed to your department.  All changes should be made online at www.it.utah.edu/services/phones/qwestdex.html . If you have no changes, there is no need to submit the form.

The Dex Media representative will be contacting departments directly about your Yellow Pages listing(s). If you wish to advertise in the Yellow Pages, contact Beckie Penman at (801) 284-5055 or send an email to beckie.penman@dexknows.com.

Please call Robin Horton in OIT at (801) 585-7205 with any questions for listings under the University of Utah heading and related alphabetical White Pages listings.  For listings under University Health Care, Moran Eye Center, UNI, University Health Care Community Clinics and physician and clinic alphabetical listings, please call Allyson Tanner in Hospital Telecommunications at (801) 581-3879.

uPLanIT Projects on Executive Dashboard

The University of Utah’s Office of Information Technology has launched an initiative to develop and implement campus IT project and portfolio management.  The goal is to promote strategic alignment of IT projects, integrate decision making, and provide methods and tools for real-time visibility.  One of the tools currently available is the UPlanIT Executive Dashboard.  The dashboard is a real-time, interactive view of active projects within the established IT Project Portfolios.  The dashboard allows users to:

  • Review overall portfolio and project health.
  • Gain visibility to all IT projects
  • Provide easily accessible reporting for portfolio and project status
  • Search for specific project(s)

AT&T has all of the necessary funding for the project. Project completion is anticipated for mid August. View this and other infrastructure project updates on the UPlanit dashboard.

To see where the nodes will be located on campus, view the two PowerPoint presentations given at the September IT Managers meeting:

Forwarding phones with the new 10 digit dialing mandate

As a reminder, If you forward your business line to your cell phone or home phone, don't forget to put in the AREA CODE as well as your 7 digit telephone number. If you don't do this, people calling your 5 digit business line will get a recording from Qwest saying they “must 10 digit dial” and they will not be able to reach your extension.

REMEMBER:  WHEN CALL FORWARDING  - USE 10 DIGITS!!!!

Research Portal Facilitates Sharing Between Departments

By Starlee Holman

With the amount of data held by each of the U’s research administrative offices, it was necessary to create a program that allows for all of these offices to better share their information between the different departments on campus. The solution is the new Research Portal, developed by Administrative Computing Services (ACS).

The Research Portal allows for access to a single integrated view of all research proposals, award, financial and compliance management data held by different departments on campus.  Through the Research Portal, managing University data as a shared, institutional resource helps provide timely and reliable financial, administrative and management reports.  It is also able to provide real-time data access, reporting capabilities and analysis to PeopleSoft Grants.  Another benefit of the Research Portal is that alerts are given for time sensitive work.  This increases the effectiveness of research activities by keeping them all up to date.

Research Portal Phase 1 went live last month and has already received excellent feedback.  The second phase of the portal will add details about post-award activity as well as reporting and data analysis. Phase 2 could be available as soon as September.
