Members of the University of Utah community have access to privileged research, professional development and other opportunities through campus membership and/or subscription to IT related groups.
Research / Education
Gartner
The University of Utah has a campus subscription to access Gartner Research online information.. Learn more about Gartner by visiting their site: http://www.gartner.com. Campus members must enter through the OIT authentication page each time (not directly at gartner.com) to gain access to the Research.
This page allows you to login using your uNID and gain access to Gartner restricted content. Please login with your uNID to continue. Once logged in this page will present a link for Gartner's web site.
Gartner IT1 Research
Gartner's IT1 Research (formerly Burton Group) focuses on technology architecture in support of application development and delivery; information management; business intelligence; infrastructure and operations; and security and risk management. The University of Utah has an IT1 Research license, which enables campus members to access IT1 Research and Advisory services. Contact Dave Huth to set up access for this service.
EDUCAUSE
EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. EDUCAUSE programs include professional development activities, print and electronic publications, strategic policy initiatives, research, awards for leadership and exemplary practices, and a wealth of online information services. A comprehensive range of resources and activities is available to all interested employees at EDUCAUSE member organizations.
Research Networks
Internet2
The Internet2 community focuses on developing and deploying advanced networking technologies and capabilities in service of U.S. research and higher education. Internet2 members represent a wide range of research and academic disciplines from over 300 member institutions, including leading U.S. universities, corporations, government research agencies, and not-for-profit networking organizations.
Westnet
Westnet is an affinity group that grew out of the NSFnet regional network called
Westnet. Westnet holds bi-annual meetings that include technical presentations from members
and vendors. Westnet provides powereful political and technical contacts with universities
that share common concerns. The next Westnet meeting will be held here at the U of U in June

Security
The Center for Internet Security
The U now has a membership with the Center for Internet Security. Any University of Utah employee may obtain a user account on the CIS Members Site. Each employee may register individually for a personal account, so long as they register using their @utah.edu address.
On the Members Web Site, you have access to:
- CIS Scoring Tools with specialized features
- Various discussion forums
- Development versions of new Benchmarks and Scoring Tools
To register, go to http://members.cisecurity.org/ and click the "register" link. Complete and submit the registration information. Within 24 hours you will receive an email indicating that your registration has been activated. Then you can enter the site using the username and password you selected.
