Members of the University of Utah community have access to privileged research, professional development and other opportunities through campus membership and/or subscription to IT related groups.
The Burton Group research focuses on network infrastructure technologies relating to security, identity management, collaboration and content, telecom transport technologies such as Voice over IP, and application platforms including EAI architecture. The University of Utah has a Burton Group license, which enables campus members to access Burton's Research and Advisory services.
Fill out the required registration form with a University of Utah email address (@utah.edu or @department.utah.edu) and you will be sent your Burton username and password.
The University of Utah has a campus subscription to access Gartner Research online information.. Learn more about Gartner by visiting their site: http://www.gartner.com. The Internet2 community focuses on developing and deploying advanced networking technologies and capabilities in service of U.S. research and higher education. Internet2 members represent a wide range of research and academic disciplines from over 300 member institutions, including leading U.S. universities, corporations, government research agencies, and not-for-profit networking organizations.
National LambdaRail (NLR) is a state-of-the-art fiber optic network that utilizes dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) technology. It provides a facility for new research coming out of the U. The U became part of the NLR project via the Front Range GigaPoP, a coalition of Colorado universities and research institutions, which is already an NLR member. Internet2 and NLR will be merging in summer 2007.
Westnet is an affinity group that grew out of the NSFnet regional network called
Westnet. Westnet holds bi-annual meetings that include technical presentations from members
and vendors. Westnet provides powereful political and technical contacts with universities
that share common concerns. The next Westnet meeting will be held here at the U of U in June

The U now has a membership with the Center for Internet Security. Any University of Utah employee may obtain a user account on the CIS Members Site. Each employee may register individually for a personal account, so long as they register using their @utah.edu address.
