Home DSL Connections
For University employees needing a reliable, high performing, cost effective connection to campus using the University’s IP address space, OIT's DSL is the best choice. Our partnership with Qwest allows us to offer DSL ISP services that meet the needs of faculty, staff, and researchers at a reasonable cost, extending the University’s network to your home.
OIT's DSL runs over your existing home phone line and connects directly to the campus network, thus making your home computer an extension of the campus network. As such, OIT DSL connections are governed under the University of Utah Information Resources Policy. If you choose an OIT DSL connection, you must sign a copy of the DSL User Agreement and send it to OIT.
Departments can pay for employee OIT DSL accounts on their monthly OIT bill. Customers are billed directly by Qwest for the DSL modem rental or purchase, and OIT bills the customer’s department for the local loop and the ISP service. Some departmental users have DSL at home but use another ISP; in these cases, OIT coordinates the Qwest billing for these customers, but does not charge for the ISP service.
To order DSL service through OIT, fill out a TEO form (online TEO, printable TEO) and the User Agreement form (PDF document) and fax them to OIT at 585-3704. You can read the User Agreement below. A Service Coordinator will call you to help determine your connection options and order your service.

DSL Charges
- The monthly charges will appear on your department's internal University telephone billing. Pricing (from Qwest) is subject to change. For current pricing contact a Service Coordinator at 1-4000 option 2.

The Office of Information Technology DSL service connects directly to the campus network, thus making your home computer an extension of the campus network. As such, you and all users of your home computer need to be aware that all activity utilizing the OIT DSL service is governed under the University of Utah Information Resources Policy: http://www.admin.utah.edu/ppmanual/1/1-15.html.
