CIS and OIT Services Password Synchronization
All students, faculty and staff have login access to the Campus Information System delivered by ACS. The Campus Information System uses portal technology for students and staff to access registration, student records, payroll information, financial data, etc. Those who also use OIT-supported services (UMail, WebCT, WANA, campus modem pool, Software Licensing, wireless access, etc...) will have passwords synchronized between the two systems. To have your password synchronized, simply change your password through the Campus Information System (CIS).
Password Requirements & Guidelines
- Your CIS (uNID) password must be at least 8 characters long.
- Your new password can not match any of your previous 6 passwords.
- We encourage you to use a combination of letters (MixeD CaSe), numbers, and symbols in your password.
- Passwords should not be birthdates, phone numbers, any family or pet names, or any part of your username.
- Passwords cannot contain spaces, double or single quotes.
- Examples: - Iam#7of9 (I'm the 7th of 9 children) - iC@n'Tgn0$ (I can't get no satisfaction)
- Never share your password with anyone!
Unfortunately, we're not yet to the point where all computing resources are accessible with a single user ID and password. Because sensitive information is stored in many of our systems, some people on campus are required to keep separate passwords for systems that access this data. These passwords are not allowed to automatically synchronize with other computer services on campus.
PeopleSoft Roles Users
Some computer users on campus, especially administrative staff, fall into the category of PeopleSoft Roles users. If you have PeopleSoft access, you will have a pagelet (box) in the Campus Information System called the Enterprise Menu with a link called PeopleSoft in it. To find out if you may be one of these people, please call either the Campus Help Desk at 1-4000 or the ACS Help Desk and ask if your computer account has a PSRoles flag. If you do, your OIT services password and your CIS password CANNOT be synchronized and you will need to maintain your passwords in two separate places. If you do not have a PSRoles flag on your account, your passwords will be automatically synchronized when you update yours in the Campus Information System (CIS).
