The Campus Modem Pool is a service supported by student computing fees to give students, staff and faculty access to campus network resources for registration, email, etc. There is no fee for the service. Campus modems require authentication with your University Network ID (uNID) and password to provide unauthorized use. Two Cisco 5300 routers, each supporting 96 modem connections at 56 Kbps, provide campus dialup services. These are configured with 20 modems that have a 15 minute time limit per connection, and the remainder have a 60 minute per connection time limit. In addition to the per session time limits, there is a connection limit of 3 hours total connect-time over the last 7 days of usage.
The 60 minute limit was based on downloading a 15 Mb file using a 28.8 kbps modem. This allowed our customers to download any of the popular web browsers using the campus dialup. If you need to download larger files, you should consider using the open access computer labs.
