Department VPN Solutions

In addition to the individual and WebVPN solutions, OIT offers a department VPN solution. If your department uses a firewall or restricts access to services based on IP address or hostname, the department VPN service may be for you. The department solution provides:

  • A block of assigned IP addresses
  • IP addresses can be dynamic or static based upon need
  • Local administration by the department LAN manager
  • Authentication using the uNID and password

All campus staff, faculty, and students have access to the general campus VPN by using their uNID. The departmental service goes a step further and gives the user the same IP address or one out of a defined pool every time they log on. This is only useful if your network or computer access list can be modified to allow access via the specific IP address/range.

This department vpn service is set up in coordination with the department network or computer administrators who can modify these access lists.

Order Department VPN

Department administrators can order Department VPN services through orderit.utah.edu. Administrators need to be registered in the Point of Contact Database to place an order, and will be asked to provide an approximate number of users in their department, and a list of their uNIDs.
