Wireless Client Instructions - uconnect Network
SecureW2 Client Installation for Windows XP
Install your wireless card. Make certain it's enabled, and that the antenna isn't turned off if it's built in (e.g. Centrino laptops). Consult the hardware documentation if need be.

Download the SecureW2 client.
Click on the self-extracting file.
The SecureW2 Install Wizard appears. Click Next to continue.
Read the SecureW2 license agreement and click I Agree to continue.
Click Install to begin the SecureW2 installation.

At this point you should see a window titled SecureW2 - PreConfigure:

IMPORTANT: If the installation finished without prompting you with this window, please take a look at the troubleshooting page.

Fill in the SecureW2 - Preconfigure information before clicking OK.
Fill out the Username, Password, and Re-enter password fields. The Domain field should be left empty.
"Username" should be your uNID, with "@utah.edu" appended to it (Example: u0123456@utah.edu). Users using a non-uNID account will need to follow their department's specific instructions for configuring the username.
Click OK to finish the installation.
Once the installation completes, you will be prompted to reboot the computer. Please reboot the computer before continuing.

Most wireless cards will use TKIP for data encryption. If you have a newer card, you may see a window that looks like the one below with an option for AES data encryption. If you see the AES option, choose it. AES is a stronger encryption format.
- If you have problems, make sure that the information shown above is in your system tray by right clicking on the wireless connection in the system tray, and choosing View Available Wireless Networks. From the left column of the Wireless Network Connection window, choose Change advanced settings. Click on the Wireless Networks tab. In the Preferred networks section of the window, click the Add... button. This will begin the steps necessary to add the network.
- Type "uconnect.utah.edu" into the Network name (SSID): box.
Click on the Authentication tab. Ensure that the Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication for this network checkbox is turned on. Choose SecureW2 from the EAP type: menu option. Uncheck the Authenticate as a computer when computer information is available checkbox.
Your window should look like this:

Click on the EAP type Properties button. You should now see the SecureW2 Profile window.

Click on the popup button where the DEFAULT profile is listed. Choose UofU from the list. This will enable the University of Utah wireless profile for the network uconnect.utah.edu.
Your window should look like this:

Click OK to exit each of the wireless property boxes.
Your computer is now configured with SecureW2 to authenticate to the uconnect.utah.edu network.
SecureW2 Troubleshooting
If you do not get prompted with the SecureW2 Preconfiguration during installation, it might be possible that you are encountering a bug in the SecureW2 installer. To ensure that this is not the case, make absolutely sure that you are NOT running the SecureW2 installer from a zip file. If you are running the SecureW2 installer correctly, and you are still seeing this error, please report the problem to the Campus Help Desk at 581-4000 option 1, including your make & model of laptop, so we can report the problem to the SecureW2 engineers.
