Secure Instant Messaging (IM) with UMail
Now you can instant message other University of Utah personnel in a safe environment. Secure IM makes use of the Office Communicator 2007 client to provide a secure instant messaging (IM) solution for University of Utah personnel. Secure instant messaging allows instantaneous communication between one or more parties by transmitting information quickly and efficiently.
Users of public Instant Messaging (IM) tools such as AIM or Yahoo! are subject to being hacked, having their identities stolen or spoofed, or even having their chats recorded by the service provider, which pose a major threat to University and individual privacy and risk management. Secure IM avoids these risks as it is only available for users set up on the University’s Secure IM server.
Pricing
Customers will be billed a one time charge of $17.00 per account when the service is implemented. In addition, there will be an annual charge of $17.00 per account billed every July.

Office Communicator Client Instructions
After your license has been purchased, you will receive an email confirming that you have been set up on the University’s Secure IM server, and a link to download the Communicator IM client. Follow the instructions below to install and configure Communicator IM.
Note: If your machine is managed by Health Sciences, Secure IM will be pushed out to your machine.
