Secure IM Office Communicator Client

Instructions for Windows

(Preferred browser: Internet Explorer)

After your license has been purchased, you will receive an email confirming that you have been set up on the University’s Secure IM server and can download the client. Follow the instructions below to install and configure Communicator IM.

Download the Client

Download the client.
 
   
You will be asked to Log in using your uNID and password as part of the download process..
   
 
   
Download and open the zip file. Copy the files to your computer.
   
 
   
Double click on the communicator.msi icon to install.
 

Install Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 client

   
 
   
Click next on the setup welcome screen.
Accept the License Agreement and click next.
Click next on the Configure Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 screen.
Click Finish.
 

Install Communicatorpatch.msp

   
Click next on setup welcome screen.
Accept the License Agreement and click next.
Click Finish.
 

Configure Communicator

   
Locate and run Communicator: Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office Communicator 2007.
   
 
   
When you first run communicator it will run minimized on the task bar.
   
 
   
Take the tour by opening a browser window .
   
 
   
You may need to temporarily allow pop-ups.
   
 
   
To stop the tour, close the window and continue. (You can access the tour after the client is configured by selecting Menu > Help > Start Communicator Tour.)
Double click on the Communicator icon in the system tray.
   
 
   
Enter your sign-in address, and click Sign In.
   
 
   
Enter your User name and Password and click Sign in.
Communicator will attempt to integrate with Outlook and may require you to login again if Outlook is not running.
   
 
   
Once signed in, you can use the mouse over menus to get a feel for where everything is located.
