What is On-Campus Access?
How you connect to the campus network and the Internet if you
are physically on the University of Utah campus. You have
a number of options. These include student computer
labs, common areas, classrooms and student dorm rooms with WANA
access, and for staff, direct desktop connections to the network. All
of these options utilize University of Utah IP space. Many campus
services, such as Library databases, cannot be accessed except
through University IP addresses.
What is Off-Campus Access?
If you are not physically on campus, you may still want to access
resources on the campus network or just get to the Internet. You
have a lot of options to do this. You can use the campus
dial-in modem pool,
any other commercial ISP, or if you are staff/faculty, DSL through OIT . For an encrypted connection to the campus network
using University IP address, you can use the campus VPN client
along once you've connected to the Internet. The campus modem
pool also gives you a University IP address for the duration of
your connection.
