To use the campus VPN service, you need a VPN software client installed on your computer and a University Network ID (uNID) and corresponding password. If you have questions about your uNID or your password, call the Campus Help Desk at 1-4000.
We recommend downloading the latest client versions from our site. The VPN client software is available for the following operating systems:
Or, you may choose your client "at-a-glance" from the VPN grid.
OIT no longer supports VPN clients for Windows 98 or earlier and Mac OS 9 or earlier. However the clients are available; contact the Campus Help Desk at 581-4000, option 1.
Once the file is extracted, you should see a new folder called 4.0 VPN and PCF, inside this folder you should see a Setup.exe file, run that. Once the installer is done and you have rebooted your machine you should see Cisco System VPN client in the program files. Click on VPN client and it will bring up a small dialog box, just click on the connect at the upper left hand corner of this box.
UUHSC
employees, you need to use a specific VPN client to access your
HSC resources. Please go to http://support.med.utah.edu/ and
click on "Software Downloads." You will be prompted
for a user id and password, which is your GroupWise ID and password.
The ITS Computer Support
Center can answer any of your HSC computing and VPN questions.

After installing the VPN client, you can test if the software is working as follows.
Users must have Administrator privileges on client PCs that use SVC. Clients connecting without Administrator privileges cannot receive and install an SSL VPN Client. However, Cisco provides an Install Enabler utility to pre-load a client service that lets non privileged users load SVC. This utility (STCIE.EXE) is useful if you do not typically configure client PC users with Administrator Privileges. It is available within the sslclient-win-1.0.0.0.179.zip file on your distribution media or on the VPN 3000 Concentrator download area on cisco.com.
You must have Administrator privileges on the client PC to run the Install Enabler and install the service. Once the service is installed, it loads at system startup and facilitates SSL VPN Client setup for non privileged users.
To set up the client service, unzip the sslclient-win-1.0.0.0.179.zip file and the Start the STCIE.EXE executable file. It creates or updates the SSL VPN client in the Program Files\Cisco System folder, which the VPN 3000 concentrator pushes to the client.
The department VPN services is free. There is no set-up or ongoing charge. To learn more about the service, see our department VPN webpage.
