Campus UMail How To
Configuring Unix/Linux Email client access for UMail
Novell Evolution Connector for Exchange (formerly Ximian Connector), when used in conjunction with Evolution, is a fully-featured Microsoft Exchange client available for various UNIX platforms. It provides direct access to all email, contacts, calendar information and public folders stored on the campus' UMail Exchange 2000 servers. It also enables UNIX users to schedule meetings easily with other UMail users by making available the free/busy time of your calendar.
Both the functionality and the interface are similar to those provided by Microsoft Outlook on a Windows platform.
Before proceeding with the configuration, you must already have an active UMail mailbox.
Configuring Evolution Connector
The first time Evolution is run after installation, the configuration wizard should be displayed.
On the Welcome screen, click Forward.
Enter the following details into the Exchange Configuration dialog box:
- Full Name
- Email Address: (your uNID@umail.utah.edu)
- Reply-To: the email address you wish people to
use when they hit Reply - Organization: University of Utah
Click Forward.

In the following dialog box pull down the Server Type drop down box and select Microsoft Exchange.
Click Forward.

Enter the following details into the Exchange Configuration dialog box:
- Username: your uNID@umail.utah.edu
- OWA url: https://www.umail.utah.edu
Click Authenticate.

Next, enter your current uNID password to verify your configuration.
Click OK.
Next, you return to the Receiving Email dialog box (the last window). Click Forward to continue.
Occasionally, the connector is unable to identify a Global Catalog server, required in order to provide University Address Book information. If the dialog box shown below appears, enter the server name 'adam.umail.utah.edu'.
Click Forward.

Enter what you wish to call this account and click Forward. Example: "UMail."

This completes the configuration.
Click Apply.

Evolution will now open and attempt to connect to the UMail server. Select and expand the set of folders identified by your email address. If the configuration wizard completed successfully, your software should now be correctly configured for the University or Utah UMail environment.
However, if the connection fails or other problems become apparent, it may be necessary to review and update the settings manually.
You may also want to configure Evolution to use the UMail Global Address List.
