Campus UMail System
Mac Mail 2.0
Issue: Windows users have problems with files I send.
Windows users may not be able to read a file you send, or may see two files when you only sent one.
- Use filename extensions, such as .doc, in the names of files you send to Windows recipients. This way the files can be read by a Windows application.
- If you send a file (for example, "MyFile") to someone who uses a Windows computer, the recipient might see two files: "MyFile" and "._MyFile." The recipient can ignore the file named "._MyFile."
To make files you attach to outgoing messages Windows-friendly by default, display the Mail viewer window and choose Edit > Attachments > Always Send Windows Friendly Attachments.
If you haven't set the default and you want to attach a Windows-friendly file to a message you are composing, click Attach in the toolbar of the New Message window and click the Send Windows Friendly Attachments checkbox.
If you send a "Windows-friendly" attachment to Mac users, the attachment might be missing information (such as the preview icon for the file) or unusable.
