Checklist:

  • Start gathering ideas from staff, other similar departments, the Internet, etc. for what you'll need with regard to network needs (wired, wireless) and phone needs (Centrex, Coral, ACD).
  • Make a list of “Must Haves”, “Would be Nice to Have”, “Not Necessary”, “Don't Know – Need to Think About”.
  • Create a Project Plan and add tasks for all parties as you proceed
  • Be sure to keep the Office of Information Technology's (OIT) timelines in mind as you plan. OIT requires 10 days from placement of order for cabling/wiring jobs to begin, with 1-5 days total for completion (including testing).
  • Submit a TEO to OIT. If you have questions on how to fill in the description fields, call a Service Coordinator (1-4000 option 2).
  • Set a Budget early and review it as the project proceeds. Work with your Account Exec for a general idea of costs. Allow for 10-15% flexibility in either direction based on changes.
  • Get preliminary design and schematic drawings for phones to your Account Exec and for cabling to David Kosanke (1-3900).
