Start gathering ideas from staff, other similar departments, the
Internet, etc. for what you'll need with regard to network needs (wired,
wireless) and phone needs (Centrex, Coral, ACD).
Make a list of “Must Haves”, “Would be Nice to
Have”, “Not Necessary”, “Don't Know – Need
to Think About”.
Create a Project Plan and add tasks for all parties as you proceed
Be sure to keep the Office of Information Technology's (OIT) timelines in mind as you plan. OIT requires
10 days from placement of order for cabling/wiring jobs to begin, with
1-5 days total for completion (including testing).
Submit a TEO to OIT. If you have questions on how to fill in the
description fields, call a Service Coordinator (1-4000 option 2).
Set a Budget early and review it as the project proceeds. Work with
your Account Exec for a general idea of costs. Allow for 10-15% flexibility
in either direction based on changes.
Get preliminary design and schematic drawings for phones to your
Account Exec and for cabling to David Kosanke (1-3900).
