Voicemail - Unified Messaging
Conversion from GroupWise to Umail (Outlook/Exchange)
Description
If you recently changed from GroupWise to Umail and were using Unified Messaging for voice mail message notification, you will need to make some changes in your Unified Messaging set-up.
before getting started
You will need the following information:

User Name: your 5 digit telephone extension

Your E-mail address: name@department.utah.edu
-
Password: your numeric voice mail password

E-mail server address:
UMail (Outlook/Exchange): imap.umail.utah.edu
to make the necessary changes open the voicemail website by clicking the button below or going to this url:

Enter the following:

User Name: Enter your 5 digit extension number (without the hyphen)

Password: Enter numeric voice mail password (same password used when retrieving voice mail messages via the telephone)

In the upper left hand corner:

Click on Mailboxes

Click on Email Accounts
Inside the Account 1 section enter the following:

Server:� Enter in your e-mail server address
UMail (Outlook/Exchange): imap.umail.utah.edu -
User ID:
UMail (Outlook/Exchange): uNID@umail.utah.edu -
Password: Enter your e-mail client password*
- Click on Verify to make sure the information you entered is correct. If it is not correct you will receive an error message.

To save your settings, click on the hourglass/diskette icon
*IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR E-MAIL CLIENT PASSWORD:
The Unified Messaging system does not recognize the @ symbol in your e-mail password. If your password currently contains the @ symbol, please change it.
Any time you change your e-mail password in UMail (Outlook/Exchange) you will need to access this T3 System website (Unified Messaging website) and record your new e-mail password in the Account 1 section as shown and described above.
After you have saved your changes by clicking on the hourglass/diskette icon:

Click on Exit in the upper right hand corner

An adjustment must be made in Outlook to assure that voicemail messages do not erroneously go to the Junk Mail folder.

From the Toolbar
- Click on Tools then
- Click on Options

In the Options window
- Click on the tab labeled Preferences
- Click on the button labeled Junk E-mail

In the Junk E-mail Options window
- Click on the tab labeled Safe Senders
- Click on the button labeled Add...
- Type @voicemail.utah.edu
- Click on the button labeled OK
After you have completed the above steps you can be assured your Unified Messages will not go into your Junk E-mail folder.
the reading pane in outlook/umail
A simple adjustment must be made in Outlook to avoid deleting new/unheard voicemail messages while scrolling through e-mail messages in your Inbox.

From the Toolbar
- Click on Tools then
- Click on Options
In the Options window
- Click on the tab labeled Other
- Click on the button labeled Reading Pane
In the Reading Pane window
- Uncheck the box labeled Mark item as read when selection changes
- Click on OK
After you have completed the above steps you can safely scroll through your list of e-mails and they will not be marked as already read or listened to.
