Voice Services for Off-campus Sites

flat lines available through qwest

A flat business line (1FB) is plain old telephone service (POTS), providing dial tone and access to nationwide and international carriers.  This kind of line is for users requiring a business-grade line located off-campus.  The difference between a flat business line and a centrex line is that the custom calling feature package is an additional charge and has limited features.  This service is provided by your local telephone company, but can be billed to your department.

A flat residential line (1FR) is plain old telephone service (POTS) providing dial tone and access to nationwide and international carriers. This kind of line is for users requiring a residential-grade line for use in their home.  The difference between a flat residential line and Centrex is that the custom calling feature package is an additional charge and has limited features.  This service is provided by your local telephone company, and may be billed to your department in some circumstances.

circuits

A circuit is a switched or dedicated communications path with a specified bandwidth (transmission speed/capacity). A circuit can also be a network of circuit elements, such as resistors, inductors, capacitors, semi-conductors, etc., that performs a specific function. A circuit can be a closed path through which current can flow. Fire alarms and some data transmission are the typical application on campus for circuits.
