Voicemail Terms
Call Processing (also knows as a phone tree) is an automated method of answering and distributing phone calls. It provides callers a series of options to choose from. Depending on the number selected, the call will be routed to a phone number or listen-only box.
Extension Voicemail allows individuals who share a telephone number to each have their own personal voicemail. There can be up to six extension mailboxes on one telephone number. Callers will reach a main mailbox menu listing the names of the individuals for whom they may leave a message. Upon making a selection the voicemail system will transfer the caller to the individual's personal voicemail.
Listen Only Voicemail are often recorded to convey repeated information or to notify callers that an office is closed for the day. Messages cannot be left in a listen only mailbox.
Outcall notification sends a message to a pager that a new voicemail has been left. This is an optional feature that can be requested for an additional monthly fee.
Shared Voicemail is when one voicemail box is shared by multiple telephone numbers. This feature is often used when a department has more than one phone number.
Zero Out Option allows callers who have reached a voicemail box the option to speak to a person by pressing "0". When selected the caller will be transferred to a pre-designated phone number.
