Retiring the Old Systems: Octel and T3 Voicemail

The University has two voicemail systems, Octel and T3, which allow you to send, receive, store, and forward voice messages from any touch-tone telephone. Both these systems also provide call processing. These systems will be replaced by voicemail through UMail's Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging on March 15, 2012.

  • If you have either an Avaya or Centrex phone you are currently on the Octel voicemail system.
  • If you have a Coral/Tadiran phone you are currently on the T3 voicemail system.

Messages stored on the old systems will no longer be available after April 15, 2012.

Introducing the New Voicemail: Unified Messaging

Voicemail at the University is changing!

University Information Technology is currently working behind the scenes to ensure all necessary systems are in place prior to launching our new voicemail system on March 15, 2012.

The new voicemail system is part of UMail's Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging. As part of this upgrade, University Information Technology (UIT) will create a new voice mailbox for each user, and provide instructions for accessing these mailboxes, setting up personal greetings, and using the new system. You can download a Quick Reference Guide here.

Budgetary Considerations for Departments Currently Using T3 Voicemail (Fiscal Year 2013)

There is currently no charge for the T3 voicemail system. The fee for Octel voicemail is $3.00/month per voice mailbox.

The new, Unified Messaging voicemail will cost of $3.00/month per voice mailbox for all users.

We are sensitive to the budgetary impact that this may cause for departments who have not been charged for their T3 voice mailboxes in the past. To allow departments time to plan this increase into their upcoming fiscal year budgets, we will not begin billing for the new voicemail service until July 1, 2012.

If you're not sure how this change affects you or your organization, please call (801) 581-5520 to speak to a UIT Finance/Billing Specialist.
