Octel Voice Messaging for Departments
The University's Centrex telephone system has an integrated voice-messaging computer system called Octel. Octel lets you send, receive, store, and forward voice messages from any touch-tone telephone. In addition to voice messaging, Octel performs call answering and call processing functions.

Accessing the Octel system
From your office phone:
- Call the internal Octel system number at 5-6411.
- Enter your password.
From outside the University:
- Call the Octel system number, at 801-585-6411.
- Press
at
the initial greeting. - Enter your mailbox number or University extension.
- Enter your password.
Using Voice Messaging
New subscribers receive a letter with a default password. The first time you access your voice mail, you will receive a tutorial which instructs you on how to set up your mailbox. The tutorial prompts you to set a personal password, record your name, and set up your greeting. The tutorial only prompts you for one greeting. If you wish to have a separate greeting for when you are on the phone versus when you are away from the phone, this can be done through personal options. From the main menu, select:

In the Octel system, if you wish to forward or reply to a message you must do so before you delete the message. Once you delete the message, it is gone completely.
