The senior systems administrator has participated in the 545-mile, seven-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, California, which raises funds for free HIV/AIDS medical care, testing, and prevention services, since 2019.

If UIT had a hall of fame, Chief Technology Officer Jim Livingston said Jon Ross would “definitely be enshrined there.” Livingston delivered his remarks on July 22 at a retirement reception honoring Ross' 37 years of service to the university.
